OVERVIEW OF VIETNAM PLASTIC INDUSTRY

Vietnam's plastic industry is maintaining its role as one of the foundation industries, with a market size of about 32 billion USD and a positive growth rate in recent years. The industry not only serves domestic demand but is also deeply involved in the global supply chain, especially in the fields of packaging, construction, electronics and consumer goods.

According to international reports compiled in the article, Vietnam's plastic industry contributes about 6–7% of total industrial production value and creates jobs for hundreds of thousands of workers. At the same time, the market is considered one of the fastest growing regions in Southeast Asia.

Research organizations such as Expert Market Research and Mordor Intelligence predict that Vietnam's plastic industry can reach a CAGR of about 8–8.4% in the period 2025–2030, thanks to increased demand from downstream industries such as food, construction, healthcare and electronics.

Currently, the industry has about 4,000–7,000 enterprises, with products exported to more than 190 countries and territories, showing competitiveness and level of integration increasingly international.

However, a major challenge of the industry is dependence on imported raw materials. About 70–80% of virgin plastic resins still have to be imported from abroad, leaving businesses affected by fluctuations in oil prices and the global supply chain.
